Thanks to your support, 2017 was another banner year for Pendragon. Ticket sales were up again, this time by 24% over last year, and we were able to give you more shows, more variety, and more both thought-provoking as well as fun theatre.
We began our 2017 Season with sold out performances of Guys On Ice. The "guys" zipped their snowmobile suits into the hearts of hundreds with a show stopping appearance at the ever-popular Saranac Lake Winter Carnival Rotary Show.
Pendragon's 2017 Young Playwrights' Festival was bigger than ever with over forty submissions. We held play writing workshops in local schools in the winter, and the festival culminated with an evening of readings and performances of the winning plays in May.
Jordan Hornstien discusses plot points at Saranac Lake Midddle School above, and, right, Tupper Lake students rehearse Teen Angst, the winning play in the high school category.
Spring brought sprucing with some new paint...
...and a new raised stage floor.
Our month long intensive musical theatre camp for kids 14 through 18 - Camp Pendragon included puppet making and performance.
Camp Pendragon 2017 presented Roald Dahl's James and the Giant Peach as our family offering, providing campers with professional theatre production experience and audiences of all ages with a magical stage delight.
We coordinated with Dewey Mountain Recreation Center in building an outdoor performance space on the mountain. Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night’s Dream, our first outdoor production was performed under the stars and universally acclaimed as “magical”.
Our 2017 Summer Season was a mix of humor, riveting social commentary, and touching human issues with Fiction, Disgraced, Deathtrap and finally with George Orwell's 1984, which toured theatres and schools across northern New York.
Last Autumn brought Ghost Tales, a fun evening of spooky hilarity, in October and our popular Patrons' Pick Play Reading Series in November (The Winner is Love List closely followed by Marjorie Prime - We will be producing both in summer 2018!)
Before 2017 came to a close, we elected a new board:
And introduced Karen's new blog:
And we wrapped the year up with the touching holiday offering The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, largely cast with a bunch of truly talented local kids.
We are very excited to see what 2018 brings as we continue, with your help, to bring year-round professional theatre to the Adirondacks by creating accessible theatrical magic on our stage and in our community. Our 2018 Summer Season promises to be both insightful and fun. Thank you again for your support. We could not do what we do with out you.
