A note on our summer season:
While joy and relief are at the forefront of our minds, we also want to remember that we are embarking on a “new normal”. Tired of the phrase? I know. But it’s true. What once was will never be the same. So our Main Stage Summer Season investigates life in flux after major events. The plays range from hopeful to tragic in scope; epic to granular in scale. And in each story, characters are wrestling with the idea that they are on the precipice of an unrecognizable future.
Our first production, AN ILIAD written by Lisa Peterson and Denis O’Hare, retells the epic and harrowing tale of Achilles, Helen, Hector, Troy -- that old chestnut -- eons after it takes place, as a wandering troupe moves through time, examining both the tragedy and absurdity of the great Greek story. Both heartbreaking and funny, the show reflects on the humanity behind the myth and the aftermath of war.
Our second production, in collaboration with the Adirondack Stage Rats, is LOST LAKE by David Auburn (Proof). It takes place on the microcosmic level -- two people from different worlds -- one who is renting a shabby cabin upstate, the other a beaten down property owner, and both are desperately looking for an escape. A witty and tender play, LOST LAKE is a revealing portrait of the struggle for human connection when facing an unknown future.
Finally, Pendragon welcomes New Light Theater Project’s HITLER'S TASTERS by Michelle Kholos Brooks (Kilroys list). This dark comedy premiered in New York City and has since toured around the world. Featured in The BBC, Chicago Tribune, & LA Times, the show also celebrated a sold out run at the 2019 Edinburgh Fringe. Based on true events, with an anachronistic spin, HITLER'S TASTERS considers the way girls navigate sexuality, friendship, and poison against the backdrop of WWII.
For our Educational programming, join us for Camp Pendragon’s THE LION, THE WITCH, AND THE WARDROBE by Joseph Robinette based on the popular novel by C.S. Lewis and Pendragon Junior’s production of THE HEALING SEASON conceived by Kent Streed in association with the Franklin County YMCA and the summer youth program.
Of course, there are new health protocols to follow and implement. Our Staff and Board of Directors are committed to your safety and will be adhering to any guidelines set by New York State.
Thank you for your ongoing support and dedication to professional theatre. I look forward to meeting and welcoming you back to our Brandy Brook home in the coming months. Let me assure you that Pendragon will be doing what we do best this summer: creating art that is live and in person.
